In a perfect world, interracial marriages and relationships would be happily accepted. Since we are not in a perfect world (far from it) some people have to deal with unaccepting in-laws, siblings and people who they thought were friends. How does his family feel about your relationship to date, court, love or marry a black woman? We always hear about how white (and other non black) families are reluctant to accept a black daughter in law but what about black families? Was your family accepting of your choice to marry a non black male? I believe that black people tend to me more accepting but…
Have you ever wanted to write a book but just couldn’t quite get the motivation to get started? Well, your motivation is coming to Los Angeles and other cities that may be near you. Getrude Matshe is taking America and the world by storm with her program How To Write A Book In 40 Hours. Getrude hails from Zimbabwe but lives in New Zealand with her family.
Robert Sarvis for Governor of Virginia by NayaCasey
“Obviously, he will capture some attention because he is Asian-American, a Harvard grad, accomplished, and married to a black woman.”
* I’m surprised whenever I see Harvard grads who get caught up in libertarianism, when they could take the careful approach by being a Republican or Democrat, while saying they have libertarian beliefs.
* Yes, I know some Libertarians are sure he will win. I shouldn’t say he won’t–I never expected that Barack Obama would be president of the United States, he seemed to be a nice-talking empty suit.
A Little Cabin, The North Pole And Show Business is quite a story. Laurie Woodall, a dear family friend of my husband’s family and now mine, spent some time in northern Virginia. While visiting her childhood home, she showed me a rocking chair belonging to some of her ancestors that actually came over on the Mayflower with them. This rocker rocked more than 13 babies during this time and has been kept in the family for generations. Now Laurie has it to pass down. It must be wonderful to have such a family heirloom survive and still be functional. Laurie also shared that Harriet Beecher Stowe was a blood relative. Harriet Beecher Stowe is credited by some to have planted the seeds for the Civil War that eventually ended American slavery. I was excited to tell Laurie that the famous, symbolic cabin was purchased by Montgomery County, Maryland and is located on Old Georgetown Road in Rockville. This of course brought back memories of research that I did back in the early 1990s.

Ladies…Black ladies that is listen up…On my secret journey to find the hottest men that like Black women I have found a group of men that we have almost let slip through out fingers. We might have to travel a little far to get to them but they are there waiting for us. The place is….hold your breath..literally you will have too to go to Tibet. Yeah…..I Know!!!…..I didn’t know that they like women with dark skin until recently….ok last night….
For as long as I have been coaching black women wanting to date and marry internationally, I have been asked what countries are best for swirling. Well, there is no one answer to that as interracial couples can be found in every corner of the globe. But as far as going to where they are, a few countries do come to mind and New Zealand is one of them. Finally a venue for some of the women to explore opportunities to travel to Kiwiland, a virtual untapped territory and see what or who they can find. Some women have actually decided that they want to immigrate to New Zealand and have taken the steps to get there by obtaining the proper Visa and work permits. Big shout out for those who know they want to go this route. It is a huge and bold move motivated in part to find happiness in life and love outside the US. Some are not ready for such a permanent move, but want to see if they could live there and just the beautiful country and what it offers. This tour is for you! Thanks to everyone who committed from the concept to fruition. I along with partners in New Zealand am happy to facilitate the “Black Women: New Zealand Is Calling You Tour”!
For years I have proudly waved the GOP banner and defended party politics to an extent. I am not one to make excuses for a proven racist Republican, and obviously I don’t think the party itself is racist. But, I am not a hardliner by any means and will call foul from my own party when I see it. Well, the Nation and I see it in Montgomery County, Illinois. I am outraged that Republican Party chairman Jim Allen, targeted Congressional hopeful Erika Harold who has the gall to run against Republican Rep. Rodney Davis. Allen really stepped in it this time going after Erika Harold in an ugly email with strong racial overtones.
I consider most people who marry interracially, progressive and out of the box thinkers. I did not know that there were actual categories of people who chose to marry interracially until I came across this post online. Evidently there are select categories that most of us fall into who date and marry out. We are: outcasts, rebels, mavericks, compensators, adventurers, escapists, and unstables.
OMGoodness, a friend in the UK sent me this article posted on Essence.com. I could not stop reading. A black woman seeking advice wrote in to Abiola Abrams’ Intimacy Intervention column. Seems the writer’s wonderful, white husband likes to use racial slurs during sex. “Oh baby, nigger bitch, oh baby.” Come again? What the what??? I liked Abrams’ answer to the sad advice seeker and if she were real, I would hope she took the advice. I felt little sympathy for this sister as she did not know how to vet. Any woman who would put up with such from any man has some esteem and other issues. I don’t want to go a rant but, why anyone would allow and actually like this kind of behavior, treatment or talk is beyond me. That is the excuse the carefully crafted, deep seated racist author gave the writer Where is the self respect? I when I read this post, I couldn’t help but picture Django Chained.
This ad circulated from an organization called Chicks In Crisis on Facebook last week and must have given all the IR couples that saw it something to think about. It was looking for an interracial (biracial black/white) family for biracial twin girls soon to be born. I definitely considered if there was anyway for my husband and I to respond but we didn’t qualify for many reasons one of which was the family had to already have been home study approved. The response appeared to be overwhelming as there are obviously many loving couples ready to provide a happy home for a baby. The good news is that there are four families being considered and I am sure any one of them would be great parents and trust that all will work out well.
All around the country, store are displaying the beautiful prom dresses in anticipation of the big night. Makeovers, shopping for that perfect dress, nails, hair, shoes, limo, after party and rules. It is a lot to cram in one date, but rules should be discussed with anyone who has a daughter, niece, sister about self-respect and expectations. Someone should also be talking to young men about decorum, expectations and how to treat a young lady. Having said that, I know what goes on at proms and school dances in general.
We needed to lighten up the mood so I thought I would present some swirls in the animal world. It seems that animals are getting along better than humans these days. The law of the Jungle is all they have. No Supreme Court to implement or overturn anything. They just do what they do. Check out some swirls!
I came across this post shared by a member of a private group I belong to on Facebook. She was seeking our thoughts on the issue and I had to chime in. Spare the Kids is a blog run by Dr. Stacy Patton, dedicated to provided black parents and families alternatives to corporal punishment. A white man wrote in to seek advice about his black wife’s family over the issue of spanking. Their differences have led to heated discussions as her family is determined to do it no matter what he says.
White DBRs Are In Great Supply
Black women who advocate for other black women to expand their dating pools to include all races are often accused of bashing black men; as some are quick to apply the DBR (damaged beyond repair) label to them. No one claims that all black men are dbrs. That would be unfair as there are some great black men out there. On the other hand, if the shoe fits……
I know that I installed the word “VET” into my vocabulary as I found myself coaching more and more women on finding suitable mates. What if someone does all the right things, asks all the right questions and still ends up with a shyster? Well, Joy Richardson, a dear friend thought she married the man of her dreams and in just two weeks it started unraveling. I would venture to say that it started before that. We are blessed with a God given instinct and anything and I do mean ANYTHING that gives us reason to pause, or question a potential mate is sometimes the only sign or red flag you will get.
We Were Ready
Although America was ready for a black Bachelorette, The ABC Bachelorette franchise passed on a grand opportunity to select Dr. Misee Harris who was poised to be the first. Oh well, its their loss. Dr. Harris launched a social media campaign that took her on a whirlwind tour of television and radio talk shows and a myriad of magazine and blog interviews. On the way to becoming a super reality (and actual) star, this beautiful dentist inspired many Americans and garnered some 50,000 Facebook and Twitter fans to cheer her on. As well, Dr. Harris got some hate mail but she always kept it real without breaking a sweat.
Is This Delicious Soul Food Killing Us?
I am going to jump on the black woman weight loss/healthy eating bandwagon, but I am going to come from a slightly different perspective. I look at so many black women and want to cry out to them to get help with the morbid obesity robbing them of their lives. Most of us appreciate good, Southern food that tastes delicious and seems to be found in almost every household. At least it is that way at my relatives’ throughout Montgomery, Alabama. I had to have a heart to heart with my mother that this food is killing us.
