The hoax, publicity stunt of actress Daniele Watts is making the rounds.  Some say the officers were just doing their jobs, checking out a call of suspicious activity.  We live in the US and most are comfortable going about our daily lives as we are free to go where we please.  We are free to stop and smell roses should we choose, we are free to shop where we like and dine where we can afford without fear.  We are also free to be interracially married or in a relationship and kiss our husbands/boyfriends in private or in public. We all take this for granted because some short 50 years ago it would have been frowned upon and even illegal in some states.

Then why were Daniele Watts and her boyfriend Brian J. Lucas targeted for doing what this free country allows them the freedom to do?  Because it was reported that they were actually engaged in sex in a car in view of several people.  A lot more than just kissing or PDA.  We could say overzealous cops racially profiling.  We could say officers who made an honest mistake.  We could say the officers were just doing their job, reporting on a call that came in to them.  They had to check it out.  What we will say is that whatever the reason, Miss Watts was handcuffed and detained, but being a mistaken for a prostitute with her John did not happen.  This stunt has made it even harder for legitimate cases of police harassment.  This could happen to any of us, anywhere anytime.  If I was stopped by the police and asked for identification I would give it.  I would be upset, but personally I would show my license and hopefully I would be sent on my way.  Read the story:
