Neneh Ada Yang (Ada) is an internationally known celebrity. The world has seen snippets of her spectacular intercultural wedding in China to Yan Yang, a renown Chinese landscape artist. From whirlwind romance to a spectacular star status wedding and beautiful baby, Ada is living a dream life. On faith, Ada chose to move thousands of worlds away from her African birthplace of Sierra Leone. Little did she know that she would some day be hosting diplomats, other distinguished guests and honored friends in her new home.
I am all for the short courtships. When two people are on the same page and committed to making their marriage work, it usually does. As in the marriage of Mark and Charmaine Davis. What a wonderfully romantic story of love and family.
Walking down the aisle, between my two mothers – Rose, the woman who’d given birth to me, and Renee Loux who’d adopted me, I couldn’t have been happier. My identical twin sister Teyolla, Tee for short, and I had talked about this day from as early as I could remember. My only sadness was that Tee, 20, couldn’t watch me get married, because she was waiting outside the door, preparing to get hitched herself.
I am pleased to introduce a new blog called: Are Those Your Kids? Raising Biracial Kids In Today’s World. I was recently contacted by new blog owner Diedre Anthony. Her column is dedicated to raising biracial children. Here is an excerpt from this blog that has the potential to be a go to source for those raising biracial children.
It has been a while since we heard from Dr. Misee Harris. We first introduced Misee as she prefers to be called, a year and a half ago as our “Woman On A Mission” . She was on a quest to become America’s first black Bachelorette. That did not work out, but this is one dentist who was not to be outdone.
Lissette Torres Gonzalez a bella Afro-Latina and her beautiful family has had an established online presence for quite some time. They been a part of many blogs, networks and websites over the past ten or so years. I followed Lissette after my very first interview with her some 7 years ago; and it got several hundred hits. Lissette and her husband Ali share a love so strong, that it literally came off the page to the readers.
It was love at first sight when Ada 23, saw Yan Yang 58, an artist from China visiting her home town of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Ada was so sure that Yan, significantly older was the love of her life, that within one month they were married and moved to China. Did she have any idea that her wedding would rival that of a Chinese empress? Probably not. But that is what she got.
Both Fawn Stone and Lakesha Yvette Walker were featured as singles on Interracial Marriage and Family, formerly Swirling and Marriage. I have not been single for quite some time but as a dating and life coach understand that it is quite hard out there for women everywhere to find love. Throw in beautiful, successful and accomplished black women, the odds rise even higher. I had lunch with Fawn and Lakesha in the summer and am still blown over in amazement as to why these young, sexy, gorgeous women at their age and in their respective professions were still single. I encouraged them, strategized and discussed a game plan for each. That game plan included swirling for these smart, hot, gorgeous women. Half the battle is won as they are very much open to interracial relationships. Neither Fawn nor Lakesha have limited themselves to dating black men only, but are inclusive of love in whatever skin shade they find it. That is a very good thing!
Gorgeous and born with comedic talent, Lakesha, 29 stands on middle ground between the “Wild Child” and the “Diva.” As a comedy writer, she loves to laugh and have fun. However, she also provides balance to the trio and is sometimes their only voice of reason. Her work may be scripted but her life sure isn’t.
Fawn Stone 27, is a gorgeous and super talented lady who does not like to get caught up in drama. Well, with the exception of on the screen drama. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Fawn returned to her home city Los Angeles after graduating from Howard University in Washington, DC to pursue a career in acting and as a television correspondent. Most likely, Fawn can be found strutting her stuff in her 3-inch heels, even in a bowling alley. She says, “Heels are more comfortable.”
Ladies, I know that many of you want to go to Europe, Asia or Australia. I am an advocate of international travel if for nothing else, the experience, different people, cultures, food, air and life in general. Many black American women are living happily overseas with their husbands and families. It is not for everyone, but I still advocate visiting. You may wonder how do you do it? There are several ways. Education, jobs, love, vacation or business are means of travel abroad. Some choose to live temporarily or plant roots. Consider all avenues and check them out thoroughly.

On The Rise is a one-hour reality series that will be depicted in a casual setting. It centers on the rather undiscovered lives of three phenomenal women. The show chronicles the lives of three friends – Misee, Fawn and Lakesha – and the challenges they face as they balance successful careers and living the single life. While a production crew follows their everyday activities, the three women show the audience that you can be professionally driven without losing your true self.

Dr. Misee Harris is a woman on a mission to become America’s first Bachelorette. I received a delightful email from Dr. Harris informing me that she would be the next Bachelorette — she hopes. Although I don’t particularly care for the Bachelor/Bachelorette show, I will cheer Dr. Harris on and hope that she indeed does become America’s first black Bachelorette. I think America is past ready to have a black bachelorette. We are after all in 2013.
Joy Richardson is a woman on a mission. Rollercoaster does not come close to describing what Joy’s life has been up until now. Past relationships have left her empty and perplexed and even in danger as one was profiled on the TVOne’s Deceived and Discovery Channel show “Who The Bleep Did I Marry?“. The author and single mother of two is taking her life back and moving forward with the speed of a torpedo.
