Katija shares: This is my husband Carlton. We met in high school and became sweethearts. I was in a Chicago Public Schools Magnet vocational nursing program hosted at Lindblom High School Where Carlton attended. A nursing classmate who knew Carlton introduced us. A romance blossomed and after shortly high school, Carlton and I became husband and wife. We got married at city Hall on August 9th 2003. I was 18 and Carlton was 20. Still going strong, we have a 6 year old son.
I am all for the short courtships. When two people are on the same page and committed to making their marriage work, it usually does. As in the marriage of Mark and Charmaine Davis. What a wonderfully romantic story of love and family.
Carl shares his romantic story. This is my wife April. Our sisters were best friends. They somehow thought that April and I would be a good for each other, so they set about introducing us. (I think they just wanted to be related lol). Well little did the sisters know that April and I would make such a true love connection.
I have always admired African women who do not seem to have an issue marrying interracially. I have learned that African women sometimes get a bad reputation for any number of reasons and it seems unfair. But that does not stop them from finding love across racial lines. I also love to see when a white African man finds love with a black African woman like Namibian Sybre found his Charity from Botswana. Considering the fact that Apartheid was not so long ago in the entire region, their union speaks volumes.
I am saddened to see the amount of vitriol Derek Luke recently received about his Latina wife Sophia after posting their photo on Instagram. They were high school sweethearts and have been married for 17 years. That is quite an accomplishment and they are to be congratulated.
Walking down the aisle, between my two mothers – Rose, the woman who’d given birth to me, and Renee Loux who’d adopted me, I couldn’t have been happier. My identical twin sister Teyolla, Tee for short, and I had talked about this day from as early as I could remember. My only sadness was that Tee, 20, couldn’t watch me get married, because she was waiting outside the door, preparing to get hitched herself.
Outrageous what Tyron Smith’s family expected of him financially according to ESPN.com. There is absolutely nothing wrong with helping your mother or family out if you make it big in any career; but Smiths’ family felt extremely entitled. They expected him to care for their needs and wants and became greedy. Tyon Smith did the best thing by cutting off his family so he and any future family he has could have a life, retirement savings and live well. He doesn’t owe his family a thing. Good for you Tyron Smith. I applaud you for your courage and your efforts to show other up and coming ball players (and other parvenus) how to stop the money trains.
I was almost blown away by this story. I say almost because having researched vintage interracial marriage and relationships, I have seen so many similar stories except that it is usually between black and whites. I am still a sucker for happy endings. Read the amazing story of Helen Gladys (Emery) Aoki and Gunjiro Aoki, pictured in March 1909. She lost her citizenship for marrying a Japanese man as interracial marriage was prohibited even in Washington State at this time. Fascinating and awesome love. The story told by great niece Brenda Wong Aoki at History Link.org
I love to see military couples. Andrew shares: This is my wife Jordan. Although we were friends from school, Jordan’s younger sister actually introduced us at church in August of 2012. We dated for a year and got married on September 21, 2014.
Meet Thomas and Nirmala Springer. They have such a cute little story and a cute little family! Thomas shares: My wife Nirmala and I found each other on Facebook. I am American and she is Indian. We followed her family’s customs and waited one year (courtship) then were engaged for one year then were married. Nirmala had a traditional Hindu wedding. We have been married almost 3 years and have a beautiful daughter.
Jas and Primrose. He is a Sikh Indian and she is Zimbabwe Chinese. Their story:
‘IT CAUSED REAL PROBLEMS WITH HIS FAMILY’: 2009 PRIMROSE KAUR AND JASPREET SINGH
Primrose, 32, is married to Jaz, 27, and the couple, both civil servants, live in Windsor. Primrose, a black Zimbabwean brought up in the UK, is expecting their first child. Jaz is a Punjabi Sikh who was born in Britain. Overcome disapproval: Primrose and Jaz said it took strength to stand by their decision to marry.
My name is Kristi Thompson, I started dating my husband Terrell on October 22, 2004 — our senior year of high school. But I had a crush on him since the 6th grade. I knew it would be a problem with my parents but I did not think it would be as big of a problem as it turned out to be.
Antigua is quite the place to have a wedding!
Well according to some tabloids and television news magazine shows they are. So the secret is out. Rihanna has been seen loving up on Leo in places around the globe most recently a party at the Playboy mansion. The question is will it last?
Eddie Murphy and Paige Butcher
I have to give it to Eddie Murphy for his refusal to depict Bill Cosby in sketch comedy on the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary special.
As a life coach who coaches women on high standards in looking for quality men I was particularly intrigued to read this post about Tia Mowry and her husband Cory Hardrict. Some women fall for anything and accept a man with no job, car, prospects nor potential for anything that remotely resembles being a good husband, father and provider. I advise clients of which to steer clear of these types and run the other way. They are disasters waiting to happen. I coach women on how to carefully vet men and eventually they will know how to spot keepers. In addition I recommend my clients read The Rules.
