Serbia: Branka and Sabina Maric Murder and Attempted Suicide
Wow I came across this tragic story that happened around the end of June 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia. An Ivorian woman named Sabina Maric brutally murdered her husband Branka (UN pilot) and tried to kill herself in an attempted murder suicide. Sabina Maric who recovered after taking pills and stabbing herself said she did it because her husband was leaving her and their two young sons for a Sudanese woman. She used a drill to murder her husband who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol after stuffing his mouth with a rag. I can’t even imagine using a drill on someone’s head.
Sabina Maric recovered and was sentenced to 15 years for 1st degree murder later reduced to 11 years. She would be in prison a lot longer had she committed this crime int he US. Jealous rage may have played a factor when looking at Sabina’s background but no doubt she would be doing more than 15 years. Not giving her cheating husband a pass because he was apparently going to throw his family away for another woman. But this was extremely depraved and selfish not considering her children’s welfare. I get it, she is in a foreign land and her husband is away on peacekeeping missions meeting other women. Sabina Maric may have felt hopeless but she did have options and did not have to murder her husband. Well, I doubt that she will even serve all that time and will be out to live in society again. For now she can think about what she has done to her family. Very sad.
From what I can gather, social services took the children and relatives from both sides wanted to take the children but looks like the husband’s family had them at least at first. Google Translate helped tremendously but I had to fill in some blanks and hope they are correct.
