I am pleased to introduce a new blog called: Are Those Your Kids? Raising Biracial Kids In Today’s World. I was recently contacted by new blog owner Diedre Anthony. Her column is dedicated to raising biracial children. Here is an excerpt from this blog that has the potential to be a go to source for those raising biracial children.
It has been a while since we heard from Dr. Misee Harris. We first introduced Misee as she prefers to be called, a year and a half ago as our “Woman On A Mission” . She was on a quest to become America’s first black Bachelorette. That did not work out, but this is one dentist who was not to be outdone.
When I first heard about this tragic, tragic story, the first thing that came to mind was how the backlash of anti black woman / white male marriage and relationships would ensue. But I had to quickly analyze the case with the information I gathered from media. Michael “Augustine” Bournes for reasons still unknown to authorities put a bullet in the head of his wife Arie Arlynn Lee and their 3 children, Arie Lee Bournes, 1; Woodrow Lee Bournes, 4; and Augustine Lee Bournes, 5. Michael “Augustine” Bournes.
Well, if this isn’t a little gem of info… When I was a little girl and my sister Stella pointed out that Richard Widmark was the love interest of Lena Horne in the movie we were watching – Death of a Gun Fighter; I was clueless as to its significance. I was shocked some 40 years later to find the movie was loosely based on a true story! I don’t at all praise a slave owner’s affairs with their slaves as was the common and typical scenario on many a plantation. But having researched black women white man relationships of the time, I know that many actually married. The romance of Garrett Lane Scott and Mary Bowen seems to have been a tragic affair.
The second deadliest moment in a woman’s life is when she tells her boyfriend she is pregnant. Whether you want to believe it or not pregnancy is now a liability viewed as a situation that can result in the death of a woman. We now have enough documentation to support the premise that many of the women missing in this country were once pregnant and they are now missing because they were in the way. These women were in the way of their boyfriend’s happiness. The next time your boyfriend asks you for sex we want you to remember the names of the following women. These women too had boyfriends but once they became pregnant the women became a liability. (NISV)
Crystal shares with IMF. This is my husband Andrew. We met on November 7, 2014 online. Within 2 days, Andrew and I knew that we were soul mates and meant to be together. I am so blessed to be married this wonderful man!
Half and Halves, tells the story of Punjabi-Mexican intermarriages in California at the start of the 20th century.
California has long been a land of possibility. From the Gold Rush to the promise of fertile farmland, people from all over the world have flocked here for the chance at a new life. That has created some unexpected immigrant communities. One of those happened in the state’s Central and Imperial Valleys. In the early 20th century, Punjabi men came to the area, by way of Canada, to plant fruit trees, hoping to make their fortune in peaches and plums.
Outrageous what Tyron Smith’s family expected of him financially according to ESPN.com. There is absolutely nothing wrong with helping your mother or family out if you make it big in any career; but Smiths’ family felt extremely entitled. They expected him to care for their needs and wants and became greedy. Tyon Smith did the best thing by cutting off his family so he and any future family he has could have a life, retirement savings and live well. He doesn’t owe his family a thing. Good for you Tyron Smith. I applaud you for your courage and your efforts to show other up and coming ball players (and other parvenus) how to stop the money trains.
I was almost blown away by this story. I say almost because having researched vintage interracial marriage and relationships, I have seen so many similar stories except that it is usually between black and whites. I am still a sucker for happy endings. Read the amazing story of Helen Gladys (Emery) Aoki and Gunjiro Aoki, pictured in March 1909. She lost her citizenship for marrying a Japanese man as interracial marriage was prohibited even in Washington State at this time. Fascinating and awesome love. The story told by great niece Brenda Wong Aoki at History Link.org
I came across this absolutely gorgeous photograph of Yih Feng and Priya so I decided to check more into the couple to see what I could see. I found their Youtube video and I must say that I was so impressed. The fabulous colors and styles of clothes were amazing. Very ritualistic and I’m sure wonderful for this happy couple!
According to the Daily Mail, A church preacher is being held on suspicion of murdering his pregnant British wife in a hotel room in Ghana. The body of Charmain Adusah, 41, was discovered by hotel staff face down in a bath where it is believed she had been lying for four days. Her husband, Eric Isaiah Adusah, a self-proclaimed prophet and evangelical preacher, was alleged to have left the hotel hurriedly on the day she is believed to have died.
I love to see military couples. Andrew shares: This is my wife Jordan. Although we were friends from school, Jordan’s younger sister actually introduced us at church in August of 2012. We dated for a year and got married on September 21, 2014.
Meet Thomas and Nirmala Springer. They have such a cute little story and a cute little family! Thomas shares: My wife Nirmala and I found each other on Facebook. I am American and she is Indian. We followed her family’s customs and waited one year (courtship) then were engaged for one year then were married. Nirmala had a traditional Hindu wedding. We have been married almost 3 years and have a beautiful daughter.
Jas and Primrose. He is a Sikh Indian and she is Zimbabwe Chinese. Their story:
‘IT CAUSED REAL PROBLEMS WITH HIS FAMILY’: 2009 PRIMROSE KAUR AND JASPREET SINGH
Primrose, 32, is married to Jaz, 27, and the couple, both civil servants, live in Windsor. Primrose, a black Zimbabwean brought up in the UK, is expecting their first child. Jaz is a Punjabi Sikh who was born in Britain. Overcome disapproval: Primrose and Jaz said it took strength to stand by their decision to marry.
In light of the recent events surrounding the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri I again have to face one of my worst nightmares. Although my son Elijah is biracial, he appears to be a young black man who could at any time find himself the target of police violence. I am a former Magistrate so I more than understand that the job of a police officer is often thankless and that fine, upstanding officers put their lives on the line every day. Still, I know there is a large element of black men whose only crime is being black. For those who are profiled, harassed and arrested for no good reason I lament.
This is not just for Americans. They accept students from all over Africa and Europe as well as Latin America. Fab program. I have written two posts on this topic and even called to check out the credentialing and requirements. This is a good opportunity for those who have strong Math and Science skills. After being accepted the first year is spent learning Spanish.
My name is Kristi Thompson, I started dating my husband Terrell on October 22, 2004 — our senior year of high school. But I had a crush on him since the 6th grade. I knew it would be a problem with my parents but I did not think it would be as big of a problem as it turned out to be.
I was very careful with my newborns and did not take them out to church for at least 3 weeks. Still I could not imagine the horror this couple, suffered at the death of their beautiful baby girl. According to the Daily Mail, A family has been left devastated following the death of their newborn baby after she contracted a herpes virus from coming in contact with someone with a cold sore. Eloise Lampton, who was born healthily on November 1 via caesarean at Mackay Hospital in far north Queensland, died last week in the arms of her parents Sarah Pugh, 28, and Douglas Lampton, 35.The 24-day-old baby had been unknowingly infected with the herpes simplex virus while she was still in hospital in the days following her birth.
